City Rail Link: More building demolitions on the way

19:37 pm on 1 November 2019

Demolition of buildings around Auckland's Karangahape Rd will start on Monday for a major City Rail Link underground station.

The now-empty buildings include the Mercury Plaza Food Court on Mercury Lane.

Once cleared, the land will be used as a staging area to dig the shaft to allow for the below ground construction.

Developer Link Alliance said measures were in place to reduce impacts of the demolition, but there would be some noise and vibration.

A specialist company has been contracted to remove asbestos found in some of the buildings.

Work will be carried out from 7am to 7pm on weekdays, and between 7am and 2pm on Saturdays.
