The Italian syndicate announced on social media this morning that their challenge had been accepted and they would be among the teams competing for a chance to take on defending champions Team New Zealand at the 2024 event.

The venue for the next America's Cup is yet to be confirmed.

Luna Rossa were beaten 7-3 by Team New Zealand in this year's America's Cup in Auckland.

Luna Rossa posted on Instagram, "The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron has formally accepted Circolo della Vela Sicilia and Luna Rossa Team Notice of Challenge lodged on December 1st, 2021. Stay tuned."

The announcement comes two days after Swiss team Alinghi confirmed they will enter the 2024 event after an 11-year absence from the America's Cup.
