There's been an upsurge in cases of leprosy in New Caledonia.
Les Nouvelles Calédoniennes reported that seven new cases were diagnosed this year - three in Noumea, three in Bélep and one in Canala.

All of the people, including children, are under treatment and are considered as presenting no risk of contagion.
The Directorate of Health and Social Affairs said that in the recent past the number of people in the territory affected by leprosy each year has generally been limited to four.
