It has been confirmed that the French feature film about the 1988 Ouvea hostage crisis will be shown in New Caledonia.

This comes after last month's decision by the territory's monopoly cinema operator not to screen it, citing the sensitivity of the topic as the reason.

But now an actor in the movie, Macky Wea, says the film will be shown at the Tjibaou Centre in Noumea on December the 12th.

The movie, whose English title is Rebellion, will then be shown in municipal cinemas in La Foa and Bourail.

Four copies of the film, which is being premiered in France this week, will be sent to New Caledonia to be shown in minor venues across the territory.

There has been a heated debate about the movie, with a former French minister describing it as a work of fiction.
