A person has died in a water-related incident at a coastal settlement north of Whangārei.
Police said emergency services were advised at 5.40pm that a person had been found unresponsive in water at Whananaki on Northland's east coast and could not be revived.
Police will investigate the death on behalf of the Coroner.
There have been at least 30 water-related deaths in New Zealand since the beginning of December.
