Quake in northern Chile

A magnitude 5.9 earthquake occurred in northern Chile on Saturday, but there are no reports of damage.

The US Geological Survey says it was centered 135km northeast of Iquique, at a depth of 83km.

No tsunami warnings were issued as a result of the quake.

Operations at the Collahuasi copper mine, which is jointly owned by Anglo American and Xstrata, were not affected. The mine is the third largest in the world.
