French Polynesia gets new transport minister

14:48 pm on 19 November 2013

The French Polynesian president, Gaston Flosse, has named a senior transport ministry official, Albert Solia, as the new transport minister.

Mr Solia replaces Bruno Marty, who resigned last week after he crashed his car while being almost five times over the legal alcohol limit.

Mr Marty, who was in charge of road safety, could face a jail sentence as he was also found to have been driving after three drink drive convictions, although the latest verdict was reportedly only delivered to him in a binding fashion last week.

Mr Flosse has also installed Manolita Ly as solidarity and family minister as part of a minor reshuffle of his government, which has now ten members.
