The LBJ Medical Center in American Samoa has received nearly $US5 million in Covid-19 federal funds to help cover the more than $3 million in related expenses incurred so far.
Chief Executive Faumuina John Faumuina said the funds were received from the US Department of Health and Human Services under the federal CARES Act and totals just over $4.89 million.
Faumuina said the injection came at a time when the hospital needs to replenish its coffers for coronavirus-related expenditures, which includes over $1.35 million in equipment, nearly $2 million in supplies and over $300,000 in infrastructure costs.
The hospital anticipated more Covid-19 expenditure in the coming months.
