From Monday, light vehicles can travel the Mata, Tuakau and Ihungia roads loop between 8am and 12pm, and 3pm to 7pm.

Entry will be controlled at all times, with a one-way system.

A Gisborne District Council spokesperson says they are waiting for the roads to dry more out before fully reopening them.

Barring more bad weather, the traffic system will continue until the bridge at Tokomaru Bay is reinstated, expected on 13 April.

More details about when the roads will be open are available on the council's website.
