A panel of assessors in Samoa has found a 23-year old former police officer not guilty of five counts of rape and one count of abduction.

The accused was charged following a complaint by a 41 year-old woman who alleged she was abducted and raped by the former police officer.

However, the former officer has admitted to one count of assaulting the complainant and the court has yet to set a date on that matter.

Meanwhile, the complainant's husband told reporters he was disappointed with the outcome.
