A former Australian soldier says a former member of New Zealand's SAS was among those who helped one of Muammar Gaddafi's sons escape from Libya.
Gary Peters, who was Saadi Gaddafi's long-time bodyguard, has told Canada's National Post newspaper that he was part of a team of former Special Air Services members which drove the late dictator's third son across Libya's southern border to Niger.
Mr Peters says he was shot and wounded in the process and his team killed five of their attackers.
Stewart Bell interviewed Mr Peters for the National Post and told Morning Report the bodyguard said the team came from Australia, Iraq and Russia.
Mr Bell says Mr Peters told him a New Zealander was also on the team.
He says he has not been able to verify the claim.
Mr Bell says the information he was given by Mr Peters was very vague.
