Fiji registrar denies shredding claims

17:35 pm on 21 April 2009

The High Court Registrar in Fiji is denying accusations that court documents relating to the interim government have been shredded.

Ana Rokomokoti says court proceedings named in last week's justice decree including any challenges to decisions made by the Prime Minister, President or Ministers since December 2006 have been discontinued.

But she says those files have been withdrawn and archived, and not shredded.

She says there is no intention to destroy any court documents.

Fiji's permanent Secretary for Justice Pio Tikoduadua says the suggestion by the Fiji Law Society President Dorsami Naidu that documents are being shredded is completely false and mischievous.
