Reward offered over kiwi sanctuary fires

12:17 pm on 15 February 2010

A West Coast community is offering a reward for information that leads to the conviction of whoever lit fires in a kiwi sanctuary early last week.

Six fires were lit in the Okarito Kiwi Sanctuary, north of Franz Josef, burning about 20 hectares.

Okarito resident Richard Saunders says local individuals and businesses have pledged more than $5500.

Mr Saunders says the community is outraged by the suspected arson at the kiwi sanctuary.
