A person has died after a Fonterra truck hit a car and then a house in a crash on State Highway 1 in Southland.
Police were called to the scene about 10.20pm on Monday, where a truck and car crashed, before the truck hit a house.
"One person was located deceased at the scene, the truck driver received minor injuries and there were no injuries sustained by the occupants of the house," a spokesperson said.
Fonterra confirmed one of its tankers was involved in the crash.
General manager of national transport and logistics Paul Phipps said it is supporting its driver and the family who owns the damaged home.
The road has stop/go signs in place but is due to reopen early Tuesday afternoon.
"Inquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing," police said
