Police say the arrest of a man for smuggling $10 million worth of drugs won't stop the demand for methamphetamine.
The 25-year-old was arrested on Friday following a crackdown by the police and customs on the supply of ephedrine, which is used to make methamphetamine.
Police said the drug - which was hidden inside pallets of plastic toys in a shipping container from China - could have been used to produce more than 60 kilograms of methamphetamine.
Detective Inspector Bruce Good said it was very difficult to stop criminal rings which import the drugs as even when arrests were made, the groups were quick to replace them with other people.
He told Checkpoint it was seized at the border by Customs.
"By the time it is manufactured into methamphetamine and then peddled in street deals, that's worth $60 million."
The man has been charged and was due to appear in court today.
