Fiji fuel prices rise

16:16 pm on 2 May 2003

Fuel prices in Fiji have risen sharply, with petrol rising five cents US to 67 US cents a litre, and diesel fuel by five cents to 52 cents.

There are proportionate increases in the prices of kerosene and outboard motor fuel, but the sharpest increase is for white benzine, widely used for rural lighting, which has jumped by nine US cents a litre to 55 cents.

The increases come as the world's oil prices fall to its lowest level in 18 months, but Fiji's Prices and Incomes Board says the latest rises are based on the cost of fuel imported from January to March.
