Police have released the name of the third and final victim of a weekend accident in Marlborough where a car crashed into a river.
He was 22-year-old Tyler Matekohi-Shields of Picton.
Early on Sunday morning a car carrying five people crashed off State Highway 1 and into the Tuamarina River.
Two injured occupants were able to escape, but the bodies of the other three were later recovered.
In a statement to police, Matekohi-Shields' family called him "a beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew and grandson".
"He was the kind of person that would give you the shirt of his back and his last dollar," they said.
"He was very picky with who he allowed in his life, those that got to be part of it were people he truly saw as special and not just a friend but family.
"He wore his heart on his sleeve, was kind and caring, he was very cheeky, had a beautiful smile and an infectious laugh."
The other two crash victims were earlier named as Jamie Marama Cunningham and Brayden Charles Allen, both 19, of Picton.
Police said inquiries into the crash are ongoing.
