Police are looking for a man who allegedly pulled out a knife and made demands to people in a car on Auckland's North Shore.

Detective Senior Sergeant Nick Poland said one person received moderate injuries in the aggravated robbery in a car park at the Volleyball Centre in Mairangi Bay on 29 March.

Poland said a man, described as heavily built with a black beard and about 162cm tall, approached the car around 3:30pm.

"He presented a knife to the victims and made demands. The victims attempted to drive away but in the process one sustained moderate injuries.

"The male victim has since received medical treatment and police continue to support the victims are their ordeal."

Poland said police are continuing to investigate the incident and have released an image of the alleged offender.

They are also seeking help from the public who may have witnessed the incident.

"Police carried out area enquiries at the time the incident was reported but the offender has not yet been located.

"After speaking with the victims, police are aware the offender approached another vehicle prior to the incident occurring."

Poland said the man approached a vehicle and yelled at the driver. That car has been described as an older silver sedan with some damage. The rear door on the right-hand side was thought to be a lighter colour.

"Police ask this person to come forward as we would like to speak with them."

Poland said police wanted to hear from anyone who may have CCTV or dashcam footage that could help.

"Footage between the hours of 3-5pm on the day is specifically being sought. This would be particularly useful around the areas of Maxwelton Drive, Amante Crescent, Mayfair Crescent, Hastings Road or around the Volleyball Centre itself."

Poland said the alleged offender was wearing wraparound sunglasses, a black T-shirt and dark shorts at the time.

Police asked anyone with information to contact police on 105 or online, referencing file number 230329/4339. Information can also be given anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
