Police in Dunedin are treating the death of a 51-year-old woman as a homicide.

The body of Karin Ann Ross was found in the early hours of Tuesday morning and was initially treated as unexplained.

However after a post-mortem and a detailed scene examination, the police now believe Ms Ross was killed.

A scene examination is continuing and the police want to talk to anyone who saw any activity around Strathallan Street between midnight and 2am on Tuesday.
