RAMSI soldier dies in accident in Solomon Islands

A 21 year old Australian soldier has died while on patrol in an area east of the Solomon Islands capital, Honiara.

The soldier was on a routine patrol near Mount Austin when he fell into a deep hole.

RAMSI Military Commander, Martin May, says the soldier died from injuries he received as a result of the fall.

He was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene of the accident.

The deceased soldier was from the Sydney-based 3rd Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment, and had served in the Solomons since last January
