Body found after person swept into East Coast river

Police have recovered a body of a person who went missing in the Mangahauini River earlier today.

The person was reportedly swept into the river in Tokomaru Bay north of Gisborne.

The body was located around 1pm by a member of the public who had been assisting police with their search.

The person will not be named until formal identification has been made, and the death will be referred to the coroner.
