Current Premier Dalton Tagelagi has said he hopes the country takes advantage of the opportunity to be part of the state event.

The funeral service will take place at the Alofi Ekalesia church with interment at the family residence at Fonuakula.

As a mark of respect, all flags throughout the state will be flown at half-mast today.

Sir Toke's Auckland-based family has also arranged for a thanksgiving memorial service at the Malaeola community center in Mangere to coincide with the service in Niue.

The former long-time leader of Niue died two weeks ago after a long illness.

He was Premier for 12 years before being ousted in last month's general elections.
