French Polynesia has been left with just one daily newspaper after a rescue plan for La Depeche de Tahiti failed and the court of appeal ordered its liquidation.
The only daily print publication left is Tahiti-Infos.
La Depeche, which was established in 1964, lost its printing shop in 2018 when it was liquidated following prolonged financial difficulties.
A rescue plan was put in place after it went into receivership in 2018, but the publisher couldn't meet its terms.
The company, which is owned by businessman Dominique Auroy, is said to have been $US1 million behind in its 10-year schedule to settle its commitments.
In 2014, Les Nouvelles de Tahiti was shut down after 57 years of publication.
Both Les Nouvelles and La Depeche used to belong to the French Hersant group, which almost ten years ago also sold off its daily newspaper Les Nouvelles Caledoniennes in Noumea.
