Fireworks hit a house in Auckland overnight, setting it on fire, in one of 40 fireworks-related callouts over Guy Fawkes weekend.
Fire and Emergency said fireworks hit the upper deck of the Hillsborough Road, Mt Roskill, property and flames had spread through most of the building by the time they arrived about 11.30pm on Sunday.
The flames were put out and no-one was injured.
Firefighters were also called to other fireworks-related jobs in the North Island, most of the them involving burning vegetation.
On Saturday, some people who attended a public display at Waikaraka Speedway in Auckland reported burns after fireworks landed in the crowd.
Fire and Emergency spokesperson Adrian Nacey told Morning Report crews across the country attended about 40 callouts related to fireworks over the weekend.
That was down from the 200 or so callouts in previous years.
"Compared to previous years, we've had a relatively quiet weekend and we can attribute that to the wet weather and people being really careful when they are setting off fireworks."
Rain helped put a stop to any potential problems in the South Island this year.
Nacey said the organisation was concerned that people were stockpiling fireworks for summer use when it is hotter and drier around the country.
"We're asking people if they do have leftover fireworks, to refrain from using them over summer," he said.
