Johnson leaves Sharks early

Shaun Johnson has been granted an early release by NRL club Cronulla to return to Auckland.

Johnson who was off contract at the end of sought an early release from his contract after securing a place in MIQ for himself and his family.

Australian media reports suggest the early release will cost Johnson $60 thousand as he'll forgo the final month of his contract payment.

The 30-year-old wasn't going to play again this season after suffering a hamstring injury a month ago.

"Although it's not the way I wanted it to finish, I leave with a smile and good relationships," said Johnson.

In June Johnson signed a two year deal with the Warriors - the club he left in 2018 having been there since 2011 and having played 162 games for.

Johnson palyed his 200th NRL game while at the Sharks.

All up he played 44 NRL games for the Sharks, scoring six tries and kicking 119 goals.
