Australia gives aeroplane to Samoa

21:11 pm on 28 February 2019

Samoa is to receive an aeroplane from the Australian government to help with fisheries surveillance.

Samoa's prime minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi confirmed that an agreement had been signed between the two governments for this initiative.

Tuilaepa said that not only would the plane help with Samoa's fisheries surveillance but it would also be called upon to help when boats go missing at sea.

Talamua Media reported that the initiative was flagged last year during a visit to Apia by Australia's then Foreign Minister Julie Bishop.
