Mini-library opens in Christchurch

Hundreds of book lovers have turned up to the opening day of a mini-library in Christchurch.

The Central South City library is a temporary venue, replacing the quake-damaged central library.

The 150-square-metre refurbished shop has about 9000 items on display, many of them new, due to a backlog of fresh stock arriving since February.

The library's manager, Bev Prout, says people living in the area are happy they do not have to drive so far to other libraries to get their books.

The Christchurch City Council is looking for other central city locations where it can start more mini-libraries.
