Workers moving out over quake fears

21:39 pm on 19 December 2013

Tenants are moving out of two office buildings in Wellington due to concerns about earthquake resilience.

The buildings are the Fairfax building in Boulcott Street and 139 Willis Street.

Fairfax says its building had been assessed as meeting between 70% and 90% of the building standard. However, a review of that assessment has found it actually meets between 20% and 30%.

The media outlet says it is looking for a new building and staff will stay on site until one is found.

Tenants at 139 Willis Street, including the Medical Council and Contact Energy, are moving after an assessment downgraded it from 70% compliant to 40%.

The Medical Council says its staff are working from home until a new facility can be found while Contact Energy is allowing to work at another office.
