The coroner is investigating the death of 57-year-old Graham Hutcheon, whose body was found in Wellington Harbour the next morning.

His widow, Lise Hutcheon, said it was unacceptable that no Interislander staff realised he had gone missing. She said there should be a head-count for foot passengers when they disembark.

Interislander said Mr Hutcheon went missing at night and its CCTV cameras would not have been able to detect him.

It said it had no plans to monitor disembarking passengers.
