The Canterbury earthquake again leads all the major newspapers.

The mood in Christchurch is described as tense as aftershocks continue, as the anguish is depicted.

NZ Herald

The New Zealand Herald has the headline 'Heartbreak in the Rubble' and recounts the story of a Christchurch shopkeeper and her son who ran for their lives from their crumbling store as a big aftershock struck on Monday afternoon.

The anguish of Rose and Myles Lennon is pictured as they later watched their shop being demolished.

Dominion Post

The Dominion Post quotes Prime Minister John Key who says it will take almost a year to fix the 100,000 houses that have been damaged by Saturday's earthquake.

The paper also carries a story about an entrepreneurial Darfield resident who is selling a piece of tarseal from the quake's epicentre on Trade Me to raise funds for the Red Cross.

The Press

The Press dedicates its front page to a photo of Donald Sutherland loading his car with his possessions as he abandons his earthquake-damaged home in the suburb of Bexley.

The whole front page is bordered with black and has the headline '100,000 homes need repairs'.

ODT

The Otago Daily Times has a banner headline 'Facing the Fallout' and talks to Police Sergeant Steve Burke, who has not been back to his home since Saturday's quake.

The paper says the mood is tense in Christchurch as aftershocks continue to rumble through Canterbury.

In other news, the ODT praises the talents of Carla Hohepa and Kelly Brazier - members of the World Cup winning women's rugby team, the Black Ferns.
