Concerns that the relocation of the US Federal Aviation Administration line of communications could impact the access of Freely Associated States to the FAA's Airport Improvement Program, have been allayed.
The FAA announced earlier this year that it was consolidating bilateral communications from Los Angeles to its office in Japan.
The presidents of Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia and Palau, wrote a letter to the FAA seeking clarification.
But the FAA's senior representative for the Pacific Rim Jim Spillane has told the Marshall Islands Journal that the change won't directly impact planned Airport Improvement Programme funding.
He says the FAA is committed to upholding its obligations under the Compact of Free Association and the eligibility of those States to receive funds from the Program is secure through 2015.
The FAA's Airport Improvement Program has provided about 50 million US dollars in funding for Majuro's International Airport and related projects in the Marshall Islands in recent years.
