Solomon Islands Electoral Commission works on new voter's roll

09:08 am on 9 November 2009

The Solomon Islands Electoral Commission is working on a new voters roll in preparation for next year's general election.

The Electoral Commission says the new voters list is a matter of priority.

It says the new voters roll is expected to replace the old voters list which had been used in previous general elections.

In a workshop over the weekend, top election officials say about one thousand volunteers will be recruited for the exercise which is expected to take two months.

The Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation says volunteers will also conduct registration in wards and villages.

The Commission says part of the preparation for the election is public awareness on the registration process.
