Cannabis-growing gear seized in Plimmerton

17:03 pm on 24 August 2011

Police have seized a large haul of cannabis-growing hydroponics gear near Wellington.

Equipment that police believe to be worth $20,000 was taken from an undisclosed industrial work unit in Plimmerton on Wednesday morning.

Detective Senior Sergeant Steve Dunn says the items recovered were capable of producing cannabis on a commercial scale.

Mr Dunn says the seizure is likely to significantly disrupt cannabis sales in the Porirua area.

A 24-year-old local man has been charged in relation to the bust and will appear in court next week.
