Crap day for a swim as sewage leaks into Wellington Harbour

Up to 10,000 litres of sewage has spilled into Wellington Harbour after a wastewater main burst on a central city street.

The pipe burst on Victoria Street, between Harris and Willeston Streets, about 7am today.

Wellington City Council said some sewage flowed into the Frank Kitts Park lagoon on the waterfront.

The council is advising people not to swim or get in the water.

One lane of the Victoria Street was closed while workers fixed the pipe.
