McIlroy says split was 'amicable'

The two-time major winning golfer Rory McIlroy was on the verge of tears as he fronted the media following his split from fiancé Caroline Wozniacki, but says he never considered pulling out of this week's British PGA championship.

The 25-year-old Northern Irishman called it quits with the Danish tennis star just days after sending out the wedding invitations, claiming he's not ready for all that marriage entails.

McIlroy concedes he agonised over the 'incredibly difficult' decision to break off the engagement.

In the circumstances, he says he doesn't fancy his chances at the British PGA championship, the European Tour's flagship event, at Wentworth near London.
