New listings generate excitement

17:51 pm on 31 July 2014

The NZX says the number of new companies listing on the New Zealand sharemarket offer something for everyone.

On Wednesday, glass manufacturer, Metro Performance Glass, became the seventh company to list on the sharemarket this year, opening at a premium to its listing price.

It followed last week's listings of apple grower, Scales, and IkeGPS, which both opened below their issue prices.

Earlier this year software companies Gentrack and Serko, the energy company Genesis and Inturei Education Group all listed.

And more are scheduled with software companies Eroad and Vista Group due to list in the next few weeks.

Head of markets at NZX, Aaron Jenkins, said the variety of new listings has generated a great deal of excitement and activity in the market.

"The market here is busy and resurgent. This is the seventh initial public offereing we've had this year and the real benefit we're seeing is that they're not all the same types of companies.

We've got a really good breadth of companies coming to the market," he said.
