A navy sailor is in hospital in a critical condition after a diving incident in Auckland's Waitematā Harbour.
A Defence Force spokesperson said the Royal New Zealand Navy member was about up to 8m underwater during advanced diver training when the incident occurred.
His colleagues gave him first aid and emergency services were called.
Police said they were called to the incident off Devonport wharf about 9.50pm yesterday. St John Ambulance said one patient was taken to North Shore Hospital.
The NZDF said the navy was supporting the sailor's family and WorkSafe has been informed.
It would not release any other details as there was an ongoing investigation.
