Auckland police say they have recovered a bicycle used by a man who was found seriously injured in the suburb of Grey Lynn nearly two weeks ago.

The 53-year old sustained head and facial injuries during the incident and remains in a critical condition in hospital.

He collapsed on Williamson Avenue, near the intersection with Grosvenor Street, at around 8.45am on 4 May.

Police issued an appeal for public help last week, that included trying to find the man's bike which he had been riding around the Grey Lynn shops.

Detective Senior Sergeant Geoff Baber who is the area investigations manager, Auckland City West, said they still wanted to speak to a woman who was seen helping the victim.

"Police believe the victim has come off his bike around the bottom of Tuarangi Road, at approximately 8.15am that morning," he said.

"A woman sought in our appeal last week was seen to have stopped to assist the man. It is possible she has given the victim a lift up the road, or walked with him, before he carried on, on his own."

The woman is described as having long light-coloured hair, wearing glasses, a blue dress and white shoes.

Police said while there was nothing to indicate any foul play regarding the man's injuries, it was important to speak to the woman.
