Police seek info on hit-and-run in Auckland

Police are appealing for information after a person was struck by a car in Auckland early this morning.

A pedestrian was hit by a car on Sandringham Rd shortly before 4am. The vehicle didn't stop and left the scene, police said. It has yet to be located.

Detective Inspector Uraia Vakaruru said the pedestrian was transported to Auckland Hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Vakaruru said in a statement police would like to hear from anyone who has information which could help, and asked them to call Auckland City Crime Squad on 09 302 6557.

Meanwhile, police attended the scene of a serious crash between a car and a motorbike in Te Puke, Bay of Plenty this afternoon.

The crash occurred at around 3:34pm on Te Matai Road between Mark Road and Waimea Drive.

Police said initial indications are that there are serious injuries. The Serious Crash Unit attended, and diversions are in place. Motorists are warned to avoid the area and to expect delays.

In a separate statement, police said one person died following a crash on State Highway 12 in Kaihu, Northland last night around 9.30pm.
