The Anglican Church is relieved at the failure of a legal challenge to its plans to demolish Christchurch Cathedral.
The diocese planned to demolish the church, but the move was fought by the Great Christchurch Buildings Trust.
However, the trust lost several court challenges and the Supreme Court has denied it the right to take the case to the highest level.
In a statement, Bishop Victoria Matthews said the decision is a relief for the leadership of the Anglican diocese which now wants to move ahead with its plans. Bishop Matthews said she is is committed to having a Cathedral in the Square within 10 years.
