Hawaiian Air asked to justify American Samoa fares

15:47 pm on 24 August 2006

American Samoa's member of the US Congress is asking Hawaiian Airlines to justify its high fares to the territory.

Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin is asking the airline to explain why its fares on the Honolulu Pago Pago route are twice the fare between Honolulu and Los Angeles when the distance is about the same.

The Congressman has written to Hawaiian's President and CEO, Mark Dunkerley, asking for an explanation on why the fares to Pago Pago are so much higher.

Faleomavaega says there is no justification for a 100% difference in Hawaiian Air's fares on the American Samoan route.
