Greenpeace's picture of what an spill could do.

Greenpeace says the Government and the oil industry are deliberately keeping the public in the dark about the real risks of deepwater drilling. The organisation says a spill off the Taranaki coast could swamp beaches and estuaries of much of the West Coast of Te Ika-a-Maui. But the Petroleum Exploration and Production Association says that's "science fiction", and doesn't reflect reality.
