Timeline: Recent attacks at bus stops and transport hubs

Police and community leaders have expressed concern at a spate of attacks at public transport spots in Auckland and now Dunedin.

In the past nine months, RNZ has reported on six serious attacks in public transport areas, including two that were fatal stabbings.

2023

30 August: A 13-year-old girl was concussed after being repeatedly punched by a stranger while waiting for a bus on Arawa Street in Rotorua.

18 September: A teenager was arrested after a fatal attack at Auckland's Albany Bus Station.

3 October: Four people injured in a late-night assault at a bus stop in south Auckland.

2024

28 March: Elderly train worker attacked on duty and left unconscious in Auckland.

22 April: Two teenage girls attacked and injured on an Auckland bus.

22 April: Bus driver attacked in Ponsonby, Auckland.

3 May: Two people threatened and robbed by youths at a West Auckland bus stop.

10 May: Mass brawl planned between students at West Auckland transport hub.

23 May: High school student fatally stabbed at bus hub in Dunedin.
