Some subcontractors who have been locked off Mainzeal sites were allowed back in to retrieve their tools and machinery on Friday.
Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce spoke with the receiver, PricewaterhouseCoopers on spokesperson Friday and says he is confident subcontractors will get back to work but is unsure exactly when.
Sub-contractors in Christchurch started re-possessing their gear late on Friday afternoon and all sites are expected to be cleared by Saturday.
It's not yet known exactly how many sub-contractors have been locked out of the beleaguered construction company's sites throughout the country since Wednesday.
A PwC spokesperson says there are 16 Mainzeal sites in Christchurch, all at varying stages of completion.
She says the 32 sites across the country will be re-opened as and when controlled removals can take place.
Mr Joyce says it's possible some sites may reopen early next week.
