Pras Michel, a New Yorker with Haitian migrant parents, co-founded platinum-selling band The Fugees with Lauryn Hill and his cousin Wyclef Jean.
They were, at one time, the best selling hip hop act in the world.
Sunday Morning's Wallace Chapman spoke this week with Michel about his music and his venture into politics - mobilising the ultimately successful presidential campaign for Haiti musician Michel Martelly, aka "Sweet Micky".
Michel is the producer of documentary Sweet Micky for President, which is screening at New Zealand's Documentary Edge Festival.
The film follows his return to his homeland following the devastating earthquake of 2010 to campaign for Martelly.
