More than 15 percent of Kāinga Ora's property portfolio is on land that is at risk of flooding in extreme weather events.
That includes more than 4000 homes in Auckland built on flood prone land, with a total value of more than $3.1 billion.
The research, presented to Kāinga Ora by NIWA in February 2020, suggests things will only get worse as sea levels rise, and climate change drives stronger storms.
