The public prosecutor in French Polynesia has refused to receive the pro-independence leader Oscar Temaru who today began an indefinite hunger strike over his treatment by the French judiciary.

Mr Temaru and some of his supporters turned up at the court complex in Papeete and were told meetings were only possible on appointment.
Mr Temaru said he would wait outside until he was received.
Last week, he found out that the public prosecutor had seized $US100,000 from his private bank account while an appeal was pending in his court case over exerting undue influence.
He was given a suspended six-month prison sentence last year over the funding arrangements for Radio Tefana.
A parliamentarian and party colleague Moetai Brotherson said Mr Temaru was being targeted by France for his politics and warned that there would be nobody to restrain radical elements if Mr Temaru were to fall into a coma.
