A police investigation is under way after a body was discovered on the beach of a central Auckland suburb.
A member of the public called police at 7.13am on Wednesday to say they had found a body on the beach at Ladies Bay, St Heliers.
"An investigation into the circumstances of the death is under way and at this stage it is being treated as unexplained," a police spokesperson said.
Further information would be released when police were in a position to do so.
Ladies Bay is described on the Auckland Council website as being a "private and isolated beach that isn't suitable for young people or families".
