Snow, rain and gales have hit much of the country today, with snow now falling across the North Island.
Snow earlier hit parts of the South Island, including parts of Dunedin and Canterbury, as a bitterly cold front sweeps the country.
The snow has caused several road closures in Otago and Canterbury, disrupted some flights and caused minor road crashes.
Wellington Airport said Air New Zealand regional flights had resumed this evening after being suspended for several hours, but passengers can still expect some disruptions. There were numerous flight cancellations and delays at other airports in the South Island earlier today.
