Our picks from the Show Me Shorts film festival

New Zealand’s annual Show Me Shorts film festival kicks off this weekend and is hitting over 20 cinemas around the country over the next four months - plus the festival will be screening at Scott Base in Antarctica over Christmas.

Whether you live in Scott Base, Te Awamutu or the Stewart Island, these are our picks for you:

DIE BADEWANNE (THE BATHTUB)

Three brothers try to dive back into their idealised past through an old family picture of them in a bathtub.

 

FABRICATED

Sci-fi, 20 mins, USA. Dir: Brett Foxwell

This ambitious stop-motion animated short film, 10 years in the making, is a journey through a darkly fantastic alien world which was once our own.

 

HA THE UNCLEAR – SECRET LIVES OF FURNITURE

An entire lounge of furniture comes to life in this inventive music video about a coffee table infatuated with its owner.

 

SHOUT AT THE GROUND

Trapped in a speeding van, a Kiwi rock band succumb to travel sickness while deconstructing the heist that robbed them of an entire weekend’s door take.

SPRING JAM

MIXTEIP – THE GREATEST TAPE EVER TOLD

Nothing stimulates memories like music. This is a story of heartbreak and nostalgia told through the eyes of a cassette tape trying to reunite two ex-lovers.
